How To Claim

Curious about the retroactive amounts for the DTC from previous years? You can view the chart by clicking the link below. There are a few ways you can request retroactive amounts, if eligible. Check out more on this on our FAQ's page.

DTC Retroactive Amounts - 10 Prior Years

If you're eligible to receive retroactive Child Disability Benefit payments, once you're approved for the DTC, CRA will automatically calculate your CDB payments for the current year and the two previous years. For any payments dating back further than two years, you'll need to submit a written request to the CRA.

How it's calculated:

Child Disability Benefit (CDB) payments are adjusted annually in July, based on your Adjusted Family Net Income (AFNI) from the previous year's tax return.

For instance:

  • Payments from July 2024 to June 2025 are calculated using your AFNI from your 2023 tax return.

  • Payments from July 2023 to June 2024 were based on your AFNI from your 2022 tax return.

For the period of July 2024 to June 2025, you may be eligible to receive up to $3,322 ($276.83 monthly) for each child who qualifies for the DTC.

Check out the links to view detailed information about amounts based on the number of dependents and your AFNI.
